The Last Princesses of Punjab: Sophia Duleep Singh and the women who shaped her
Opening 26 March 2026 - 08 November 2026
CRITICAL FRIEND / CONSULTANT / LEAD FACILITATOR
Discover the story of Punjabi princess and suffragette icon, Sophia Duleep Singh and five women who shaped her extraordinary life, in a new exhibition at Kensington Palace for 2026.
I was approached by the Community Partnerships Producer at Historic Royal Palaces - Jatinder Kailey - to help with an exhibition on the Duleep Singh sisters, as a critical friend/consultant. Through meetings with multiple teams, we worked together on how to help represent the LGBTQ+ community and South Asian women in the exhibition.
I was also asked to facilitate the community response to the exhibition, where a lead a group of 10 South Asian women, non-binary and trans people for this exhibition. I brought on queer and trans South Asian people to introduce intersectionality and nuance to the exhibition.
Through multiple sessions curated by me, we had thoughtful and sensitive discussions around the sisters and their resistance. Though this, we developed their responses in film, poetry and audio recordings. I consulted the production of each response, and made sure that is was done with sensitivity.
These voices of British South Asian people today will be present throughout the exhibition, responding to themes of identity, expression, and resistance.
